The 7.2 magnitude earthquake jolted the southern peninsula of Haiti on August 4th, 2021. In a country still reeling from the physical, psychological, and financial effects of another massive earthquake just 10-years earlier, it was devastating. Twenty four hours after the first shockwaves Jamie was in country with a medical reconnaissance team tasked with evaluation, identification of needs, and establishment of treatment capabilities. It took just 48 hours for the team to establish an augmentation arrangement with the Les Cayes General Hospital Emergency Department which was being overwhelmed with serious injuries and begin treating patients.
